Trés Awesome Hearts Bike Fancy

I've officially made it into the Fashion Blogger world.  Check out this mention on the Trés Awesome Fashion blog:

Addendum:  A reader pointed out that I have not answered the questions that I ask everyone else on the site, so here goes:

Tell me about your bike, and where you got it?  My bike is a 1987 Pink Schwinn Prelude that I got from an old roommate because it was too big for her (we traded bikes).  I've had it for almost 10 years now; parts have been modified, replaced, and stolen, but all the folks a Boulevard Bikes keep it going.
Where are you going?  After this photo shoot I am going home to walk and hang out with my dog.
What are you wearing?  Purple tank layered with a grey tank from Penelope's,  orange circle skirt from American Apparel , Pink brand wedge pumps from the clearance rack at Akira shoe store.
Why ride?  I ride a bike because it keeps my head screwed onto my body when my mind wanders, makes me happy, conscious of the world, healthy, and has the power to make me feel like a kid, again and again. And its green!
Favorite Ride?  I love night rides when I can speed down a deserted street with no speed bumps.  Also, I love to ride bikes wherever I travel.
While riding you...? While riding I listen to music and whistle along, trying to match the key.  Embarrassingly, when no one is around, I air drum on my handlebars.
How can Chicago improve bike infrastructure or make Chicago more bike friendly?  I think Chicago has a good start, but could do a lot more to be bike friendly. I would love to see even more divided bike lanes, and some bike-only street programs like Summer Streets in New York city.  I see that a lot more people are riding bikes, but there also seems to be increased tension between drivers and cyclists.  Just because I ride a bike, doesn't mean I think I am better than someone that is driving, but I see other cyclists that clearly think they are.  Conversely, I think drivers need to understand that driving is a privilege, not a right, and that they are operating a 4,000 pound vehicle that could kill someone.

With snow on the ground, cycling has become a much messier endeavor.  I'm preaching the gospel of thick wool socks to anyone that will listen.  I've got some new cold weather running tights that are a nice back up for my wool long johns and a little sleeker.  (I've got some "wet" leggings layered over).  I'm hoping for some real winter boots for christmas, in the meantime, I'll keep ruining my vintage boots from ebay.

*** I'm running low on my reserve of photos, so tell all of your cycling friends I want to take their picture!  Email me at: mafaw1@gmail.com.
I will also be stalking the bike lanes, so look fancy ; )

Winter weather has hit and all day it was hovering around freezing.  In the winter weather I love my Sugoi outer shell, my Detours TOOCAN bag, and my 100 % merino wool tights. Good wool tights are as warm as jeans, and look great with dresses.   I also have a ridiculous amount of thrifted thin wool and cashmere sweaters to layer with.  The snow is coming so hopefully I will have some fun winter bike photos to post on Monday.

Who knew I'd be wearing open-toed shoes in November!  Best. Fall. Ever.  And I grew up here.

Ice Pink Schwinn Prelude 1987

Had to share.  This is my bike from way back in 1987!  Check out some of my self-portraits to see what 8 years of hard riding and getting stripped by a bike thief will do.  Thanks to Boulevard Bikes in Chicago for keeping it rideable.

I photographed Chicago Mayoral candidates so I decided to wear by best conservative office wear.  I love this hat www.floydboberg.com.   Its locally made with reclaimed wool, has a velcro chin strap, and it fits under my helmet!
